Perhaps I didn't illustrate my point clearly enough.
I don't see how you're sticking it to the man by switching from a corporation that provides free entertainment (ie, radio that makes money from advertising) to a corporation that provides entertainment you have to pay for (ie, Sirius). The fact that the FCC moderates one and not the other will probably have little impact on the latter's entertainment quality, other than the fact that you will finally be able to hear Howard Stern swear (whoopie!).
It's like saying, "I'm sticking to the man because I'm not going to watch CBS anymore, I'm just going to watch cable TV."
It might be a good product, mind you, but I can't imagine paying money every month for what will probably amount to more crappy pop music, albeit non-FCC-regulated crappy pop music. I always listen to CDs in the car, anyway. If I had some extra dough, however, I'd buy their stock:

Well if it was just the same amount of music on sirius I wouldn't really thnik about switching. I've been listening to it online for a few days and their are about 5 jazz channels that play some really good tunes. Here in my town their are no jazz channels at all. Theirs one in orlando but thats only when I'm their. Thats one of the big points for me. Plus stern..lol.
Sirius is really in the whole now too. They've spent about 650mil and have made around 50mil. I can imagnie what their paying stern to move because he has millions and millions of viewers...

That's cool. There seems to be a dirth of jazz stations pretty much everywhere. Still, twelve bucks a month could buy you one jazz CD a month to listen to forever...
I should probably add that I'm incredibly cheap and hate spending money on anything.
I am really a fan of new mediums of information. I think it is great that they are pushing the boundaries of what we have now, trying to offer something that is different than the choices, or lack thereof, that we have now. Now, of course they are in it for money... i wouldn't expect them to do it for charity! Don't even get my friend started on this cause this is his rant, what i am about to get into: America is so watered down, we have so much quantity, barely any quality. It is in every facet of life. Go to Japan and see that quality they have there... my God, it makes America look like Wal-Mart. People here settle for less quality because they like having MORE of 'it'. Radio is just an example of that. You can polish me up a free turd, doesn't mean i'm gonna want the shiny piece of sh*t! I will pay for quality- if i want a product, even a free product, i want it to be GOOD. Ever walk by a free bike lying on the street and pass it up because it is not worth a look? Well, you would pass that up because the quality is so poor, and yet buy a new bike because it is what you WANT. Radio is the same... i may take it for a spin or two around the block, but as soon as something better comes along, i am forking over the cash. Just cause something is free doesn't make it worth settling for. I can fore-go three trips to Starbucks for some good music and good variety.
When i "stick it to the man", i am saying: hey, if we are talking product here; don't TELL me what i want, GIVE me what i want and you can have my money... that is what it is here for. Everyone is a servant in Capitalism, i am yours, you are mine... all the way up the line. When something/someone tries to flip that and have you be the b*tch and the servant, pay them, serve them and not serve you in return, make you take what they are giving you, even if you don't want it... that is being "The Man" and i ain't down with that. It is about choice, tit for tat... THEY seem to be gettin' more tits than me, and i am left with all the tats, so dammit, i am pissed!
So: UH! Take That

For all of you that don't remember, cable TV started out like this. No censorship or commercials. Look at it now. Sirius is a good idea, but give it 5 years and greed will take hold.
The fact is the man didn't ruin radio payola did.
Stay away from the stock...the SEC is investigating Stern for fraud...on second thought, it may bump the price up with the madness of the market...look what happened to Martha.
FM used to be pretty fricking awesome...but those days are long gone.
I don't listen to the radio anymore anyway.
Well I went out and got it a few days ago. What can I say... It kicks FM in the tush!
XM also just raised their price to 12.95 so now both are at the same price. Sirius all the way!
BTW, I have news for people who think that Sirius won't eventually move towards commercials...Mel Karmazin, who is a hard charging ad sales guy from Viacom, WILL be bringing advertising to the Stern show.
SO you'll be paying out the nose, AND listening to commercials, which, if te theory is correct, will decrease the music selections to top 40 and R+B, with maybe a nu-metal station here or there...
Some talk radio stations DO have advertising. Do I care? Not really. As long as the music stations are ad free I'm fine with it. I know their has been talk about having to remove a few stations to allow room for nascar/stern but I really doubt it would bother me if a station goes down. I feel that the radio is alot better source then buying a album once a month for the money. It opens me up to to much great music I would never even think about or find at the music store! Everytime I've turned it on to the jazz staions I was jammin to some great tunes.
